Niagara History Center Invites Students to Celebrate Apples on Columbus Day

Columbus Day is a day away from school, but don't stop learning! Celebrate Fall at the History Center of Niagara on Columbus Day and learn everything you ever wanted to know about apples.  Apple farmer and historian John Hall will be on hand to share some of his “apple wisdom.”  Participants will also be making applesauce, taste-testing apples, stenciling with apples, playing apple games, reading stories about apples and much more.  An apple related snack will be provided.  The program takes place at the History Center, 215 Niagara Street in Lockport on Monday, October 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon.

The program is open to children ages 7 through 12.  The cost of the program is $10.00 per child.    Reservations are not required.  Parents are encouraged to leave their children for the duration of the program.  Please call the History Center at 434-7433 for more information.

Sisters Hospital First in WNY to Perform Robotic Tubal Ligation Reversal

Sisters Hospital First in WNY to Perform Robotic Tubal Ligation Reversal

More than 650,000 women undergo tubal ligation in the United States annually, permanently ending their ability to have children. But what happens if circumstances change? Studies show that within five years of undergoing a tubal ligation, approximately six percent of women decide they want to reverse the procedure to have a baby.

While this may seem like a small percentage overall, for the women affected, it represents a huge challenge.  Last month, Ali Ghomi, MD, a gynecologic surgeon at Sisters of Charity Hospital, performed the area’s first tubal reversal surgery (tubal reanastomosis) using the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System.

Help a Woman Fighting Cancer: Clean for a Reason

Have you ever wondered how to best help a family member, friend or colleague battling cancer?

While simply being there for them as an emotional support system can often be enough, one national non-profit organization works to help make their home life easier by offering them help where they most need it.

Cleaning for a Reason was developed just a few years ago as a free professional cleaning outlet for women undergoing treatment for any type of cancer.  With 547 partners currently signed up to provide the service across both the United States and Canada, this non-profit organization is continuously expanding its reach to help more and more affected women.

To sign-up, all a woman needs is to do is have her doctor fax a note confirming the treatment of chemotherapy to the representatives at Cleaning for a Reason
