Buffalo, NY - Several officers from Buffalo Police, New York State Court and from the city's Fire Marshal's office helped rescue 3 people from a burning house on Crestwood Avenue in North Buffalo Saturday afternoon.

Officials tell 2 On Your Side the fire started in the second floor of the home around noon. The officers who were working at the Italian Festival on Hertel Avenue noticed smoke rising in the air and rushed to the burning home.

Buffalo Police say they first rescued a woman from the ground floor of the home. Louis Vinci, the woman's son-in-law rushed to the scene when he found out about the fire. He say she's lived on the ground floor of the home for the last 40-years.

"She says if it wasn't for them she probably would not be alive for the simple fact that they came rushing. They got her out of the house," said Vinci.

Mayor Extends Pool and Splash Pad Hours as Temps Rise

BUFFALO–Mayor Byron W. Brown today announced extended hours for pools and splash pads throughout Buffalo, as the city experiences a heat wave this week.

“With temperatures expected to be in the low to mid-90s in the next few days, we want to provide more hours for kids and families to beat the heat by cooling off at one of the city’s pools or splash pads,” said Mayor Brown.

All pools and splash pads will be open from 11:00a.m.–8:00p.m. today, and 10:00a.m.–8:00p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Pool and splash pad facilities will be equipped with lifeguards and standard security measures.

“During this extremely hot weather, I encourage Buffalo residents to look out for one another, especially elderly neighbors and friends,” said Mayor Brown. “It is important that we stay in cool places during these hot days. We also must remember to keep our pets hydrated and out of the heat.”
