Winter Market at Horsefeathers to Open This Saturday

The Winter Market at Horsefeathers, located in the historic Horsefeathers Building at 346 Connecticut St. on Buffalo’s West Side, will open its doors at 8 a.m. this Saturday, Jan. 5. Customers will be greeted by a variety of local food vendors.

While reconstruction remains a work in progress, the building, when renovated, will be home to several permanent and temporary food vendors on the first floor and basement levels, and 24 loft-style apartments on the top four floors. The marketplace will run through May 4, 2013, before giving way to the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market which reopens on May 11.

New Dog Ears Café Opens in South Buffalo Bookstore

The new Dog Ears Café has officially opened its doors at 688 Abbott Road in South Buffalo, sharing a building with the nonprofit Dog Ears Bookstore. A special grand opening celebration will take place on Saturday, Jan. 12, and will feature food and drink specials, raffles and readings.

Hours at the new café are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. (Limited hours are in effect until Jan. 2.) The interior of the building has been redesigned to allow for easy customer flow between the bookstore and the café.

New Website Showcases WNY Art, Artists

IMG_INK Print Galleries offers prints from renowned artists

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A new website is celebrating Buffalo’s rich artistic and architectural history by featuring the art and artists that have helped define the area’s legacy.

IMG_INK, a Buffalo printing facility that specializes in working with artists, has launched IMG_INK Print Galleries, an online venue that allows visitors to browse and purchase the work of a collection of notable local artists. The site, http://shop.imgink.com, offers museum quality prints of photographs and artwork that are all connected to Western New York through either the subject or the artist.

IMG_INK owners Biff Henrich and Kevin Whipple created IMG_INK Print Galleries as a response to artists who were looking for a more direct way to connect their work with the public.

First of its kind initiative will offer career path for Veterans

Erie County, NY County Clerk Chris Jacobs is pleased to announce a new partner in his “Thank-A-Vet” Discount Program but “this goes well beyond a mere discount,” said Jacobs.
 

Metro Roberts Realty Owner Jim Roberts upon hearing of the Clerk’s “Thank A Vet” program proposed this idea to Chris Jacobs, to offer Veterans an opportunity to become a licensed real estate agent and get into real estate as a career.  Under this initiative Metro Roberts Realty will fund 100% of the start-up costs for a Veteran to become a licensed real estate agent in New York State.

The nonprofit Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo is inviting Western New York employers and organizations to make a New Year “healthy choices resolution” by participating in the annual Eat Well Live Well Challenge. This results-focused  wellness Challenge, provided by Wegmans Markets, empowers participants by increasing physical activity and making better nutrition choices. Together these actions enable individuals to improve their health and lower their risk for unnecessary medical costs from chronic illnesses.

Teams Selected To Compete in 2013 Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament

Labatt Blue beer today announced the 96 teams who will take to the ice during the sixth annual Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Erie Basin Marina. More than 650 players will compete across 12 divisions with seven player rosters.

Selected teams will still have the opportunity to update their rosters by adding or changing players until January 15, 2013. All selected teams will be charged the $250 tournament fee. Teams not selected via lottery system will be automatically entered into a tournament waiting list.
