Explore Buffalo, a nonprofit organization providing tours and other opportunities where guests can discover Buffalo’s great architecture, history and neighborhoods, has announced a schedule of specialty bus tours.

Buffalo Highlights by Bus: Historic Treasures

July 10 & 11, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Tickets: $25, students and season pass holders $20

Take an overview bus tour of Buffalo’s historic and architectural landmarks! This 90-minute tour is an excellent introduction to Buffalo’s architectural landscape, passing by famous works by Henry Hobson Richardson, Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright. Landmarks designed by local architects such as E.B. Green, Dietel & Wade, Esenwein & Johnson, and Louise Blanchard Bethune will also be seen on the tour. In addition, the tour will pass through several park and parkway spaces designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, along with great urban neighborhoods including Parkside, Allentown and the Elmwood Village.

A drive along “Millionaire Mile” on Delaware Avenue will showcase the opulence of Buffalo’s Gilded Age elite at the turn of the 20th century. The tour will also pass many of Buffalo’s renowned cultural attractions, including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo History Museum and Kleinhans Music Hall. Along the way, the tour will provide a background narrative of local history, from the opening of the Erie Canal to the Pan-American Exposition in 1901 to the current urban renaissance.

All of the areas and landmarks seen on the tour can be explored in greater depth on an Explore Buffalo walking tour, or with other local organizations for buildings such as the Darwin Martin House and Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site. Your experienced docent will be happy to provide information about visiting any of the places seen on the tour.

Take an overview bus tour of Buffalo’s waterfront, the source of much of the city’s wealth and prosperity since its earliest days. Today, the waterfront is a focal point for the city’s ongoing renaissance, which will be showcased on this tour as it visits Canalside, the Outer Harbor and the mighty grain elevators along the Buffalo River. See how Buffalo is returning to its waterfront roots with a revitalized waterfront being reclaimed for the entire community with new parks, trails and public art.

The tour will also travel through South Buffalo, visiting the Olmsted-designed Cazenovia and South Parks and passing the Botanical Gardens and Our Lady of Victory Basilica. Throughout the tour, you’ll see many of the new developments throughout the southern part of the city, including the massive SolarCity solar panel factory and the revitalized Larkin District.
