BMHA Hosts Open House to Review Perry Choice Economic Plan

On Thursday, March 28 between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., the public is invited to attend an open house to review and offer feedback on the Commercial Revitalization & Market Strategy Plan for the Perry Choice Neighborhood. The plan is designed to set a course of rebirth along the neighborhood’s primary commercial corridors of South Park and Perry Street, identifying businesses and services needed to serve the community and greater region.

The project’s consultant, Peter J. Smith & Co. of Buffalo, already included community input, along with market analysis and urban design techniques. These will be finalized to develop the revitalization plan for the Perry Choice Neighborhood commercial corridors and action strategies to implement the plan.

The open house will be held at the BMHA Planning & Information Center at 400 South Park Avenue in Buffalo, NY.

Ben Garelick Jewelers Among Those Donating To Polar Bear Exhibit

To help expand the new Arctic Edge Polar Bear exhibit at the Buffalo Zoo, several local businesses are pitching in to ensure that cold weather animals, including newborn polar bear cub, Lola, have an expansive environment to grow in and call their own. The project is a 60,000 square foot exhibit featuring a frigid, snow-covered Arctic habitat that will be home to wildlife such as arctic wolves, bald eagles, Canadian lynx along with endangered polar bears.

Ben Garelick Jewelers is currently selling a special polar bear Pandora charm. The charm is priced at $40 and all profits are donated to the Buffalo Zoo so that the project is successfully funded and built.

Samuel Wilkeson, He Built Buffalo by Building Its Harbor

Samuel Wilkeson, He Built Buffalo by Building Its Harbor

Then a harbor was built and it became the key-stone upon which the Village grew to greatness, becoming a City in 1832, and one of the largest ports in the world 75 years later.  The building of that harbor by Samuel Wilkeson and a small group of citizens, is a story of heroic vision and sacrifice unmatched in the later annals of the city. This is the first in a five-part series telling that story.
