Video Highlights Land Conservancy’s Stella Niagara Preserve Efforts

 

The Western New York Land Conservancy’s efforts to create the Stella Niagara Preserve on the Niagara River in Lewiston are featured in a new video produced by WGRZ-TV. The video is part of the “2 The Outdoors” series and originally aired on Dec. 15. 

The Western New York Land Conservancy is currently in the process of raising funds to purchase 29 acres of pristine land along the lower Niagara River, with the intent to make it a preserve that will be open to the public.

West Side Neighborhood Housing Services in Buffalo has been recognized as a NeighborWorks Green Organization for its comprehensive commitment to sustainable operations.  To achieve this designation, West Side NHS was required to demonstrate adherence to a set of green business practices across its operations and all of its program areas. 

This is the second consecutive year that NeighborWorks America has recognized member organizations for their efforts to create healthier, energy-efficient environments for homeowners, renters, community residents and employees. To date, 42 NeighborWorks organizations have achieved this designation.

Grisanti Delivers For Orchard Park: Secures $200,000 For Green Dam Reconstruction

New York State Senator Mark Grisanti, who serves as Chairman of the Senate’s Environmental Conservation Committee, announced today that after working with town officials in Orchard Park he has been able to secure $200,000 to help replace Green Lake Dam.

Green Lake Dam was recently reclassified by the state Department of Environmental Conservation from an intermediate hazard to a high hazard, which drew concerns from many residents and community stakeholders in Orchard Park.

“The re-classification of Green Lake Dam is troubling for the residents of Orchard Park,” said Senator Grisanti. “Green Lake Dam needs to be reconstructed immediately. The funds I was able to secure from the Environmental Protection Fund will help do just that.”

Senator Mark Grisanti (R,I) announced today that Woodlawn State Beach Park will be receiving $75,000 from the Environmental Protection Fund to help with the Town of Hamburg’s pump station conversion project.

Senator Grisanti, who chairs the Senate’s Environmental Conservation Committee said: Woodlawn State Beach Park is a top issue of mine. I am always looking for ways to help clean up the water so that the residents of Hamburg and other Western New Yorkers can enjoy this great beach.”

Land Conservancy Announces $1.8 Million Award for Stella Niagara Preserve

The Western New York Land Conservancy is pleased to announce that it was awarded $1,843,487 from the Habitat Enhancement and Restoration Fund (HERF) towards creating the Stella Niagara Preserve. The fund was created as part of the Niagara River Greenway from the Niagara Power Project Relicensing agreement. When combined with the $500,000 received from the Greenway Ecological Standing Committee earlier this year, the Land Conservancy will have received more than $2,300,000 of the $3,100,000 needed to create the first nature preserve along the Niagara River to be owned and operated by a not-for-profit.
