East Aurora Readies for 45th Annual Street Festival and Sidewalk Sale

One of East Aurora’s most popular annual events — the Street Festival and Sidewalk Sale — returns on Saturday, July 26, and will feature more than 100 vendors, special guests and numerous fun-filled family activities. Now in its 45th year, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Main Street.

Doug Allen, national anthem singer for the Buffalo Sabres, will be joined by the American Legion Post #362 Color Guard to perform the Star-Spangled Banner at 9:45 a.m. Chalk Walk Murals, sponsored by the Town of Aurora Recreation Department, will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the award-winning Rince Na Tiarna Irish dancers will perform at 10:30 a.m. Unyts will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Operations Kids, an educational program for young entrepreneurs ages 6 to 15, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. With guidance from the Greater East Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Operation Kids showcases youth businesses and provides basic lessons in creating a business plan, finance, customer service and more.

“While Main Street will be the closed to traffic from Olean Road to Riley Street to accommodate vendors, guests and activities, the event will also highlight businesses throughout the entire village,” said Gary Grote, executive director of the Greater East Aurora Chamber of Commerce. “We invite people to explore not only the merchants along Main Street but those found along Elm and Riley streets, in the Oakwood Plaza, along the West End Business District, in the Roycroft Campus and throughout our community.

“It’s definitely a family centered event that draws approximately 6,000 visitors every year,” added Grote. “Vendors will include everything from business-related services to crafts, jewelry, candles, art, antiques and, of course, food and beverages. Add in a wide variety of entertainment and demonstrations, and there’s something to appeal to guests of all ages.”

There is plenty of free public parking available behind many of the Main Street businesses. Alleyways leading from the parking lots to Main Street have been renovated and now feature Roycroft and Fisher-Price themes.

During the event, Boy Scout Troop 599 will be collecting returnable bottles and cans as a fundraising activity.

West Herr of East Aurora is the event’s main sponsor and will showcase new cars at the event and at their newly renovated dealership at 535 Main St. Supporting sponsors include Buffalo Spree, Erie County Auction & Expo Center, Money Mailer and Seneca Health Care Center. Operation Kids is sponsored by University Pediatric Dentistry at Toytown and supporting sponsors Tops Friendly Markets, Fisher-Price and Hidden Valley Animal Adventure.
