Dog Wash to Raise Money for Sick Child

KENMORE, N.Y. -- Niagara Aquarium Pet Shoppe at 1345 Military Road in Kenmore is holding a Dog Wash to benefit Evan D. Corbett, a nine-month-old child born with serious health issues, on Saturday, August 28, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

For just a $5 donation you and your dog can have a good time for a good cause.

Corbett was born November 9, 2009, with Congenital Central Hyperventilation Syndrome, which required tracheotomy surgery at five weeks of age and now requires nearly 'round-the-clock nursing care. Proceeds will help to offset medical expenses.

Local Chefs to Visit the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market this Saturday

Are you ready to make a commitment to eating better? Just looking for something different to do on a relaxing Saturday morning? Then make plans to explore the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Coming to the market on Saturday, August 14: A guest chef demo with Chef William Metzgar and wine-tasting courtesy of Niagara Landing Wine Cellar and Freedom Run. Also, Feed Your Soul will tour the market with Chef Kate Elliott and guests. 

The market features more than 30 vendors offering fruits, vegetables, baked goods, organics, fresh meat, cut flowers, wine, eggs, dairy, honey and much more in an open-air setting.

Opening Celebration at Burchfield Penney

Buffalo State College invites the public to join them as theycelebrate the recent openings of four new exhibitions at the Burchfield Penney art center - "Dominance and Affection: New Work by (Buffalo State College alumna) Bethany Krull," "The Art and Life and James C. Litz," "George William Eggers" and "Colorful Quilts That Bind Us Together" (in the Community Gallery)

The opening celebration will take place on Friday, August 13th from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m.

Last Week For Shakespeare in Delaware Park

There is only one week left in the 35th season of Shakespeare in Delaware Park in Buffalo.

The final performance of the summer will take place on Sunday, August 15th.

An all-female cast highlights the current performance of Macbeth.

Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. every night except Monday.

There is no charge to attend the performance.

Bike Run to Benefit Scholarship Fund

The 8th Annual Jalana Palma Scholarship Bike Run takes to the road on Sunday, August 8. Motorcycles leave the Panera parking lot at Sheridan and Delaware in Tonawanda at 10 a.m. and arrive at the American Legion Niagara Frontier Post at 533 Amherst Street in Buffalo. A reception there begins at 3 p.m.

Jalana Palma, a student at Kenmore East High School, was a 16-year-old girl who lost her life on October 21, 2000 to meningitis. A scholarship established in her honor is awarded to students at Kenmore East High School who are planning to go to college to become teachers, because that was one of Jalana'a ambitions.

Tour the Gardens of Black Rock and Riverside

The sixth-annual Black Rock and Riverside Tour of Gardens takes place rain or shine on Saturday, August 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Starry Night Garden Tour from 8 to 10 p.m. will feature well-lit gardens.

This is a free, self-guided tour that showcases more than 60 daytime and 20 evening gardens. Participants can join a scavenger hunt and become eligible to win prizes.

Programs, maps, posters, T-shirts, caps and visors will be available at both garden tour headquarters: St. Mark's Church, 311 Ontario Street and Renovation Church, 567 Hertel Avenue.
