Providing musical entertainment on Saturday, Sept. 29, will be David Adamczyk from 10 to 11:30 a.m., followed from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. by Adam Giancarlo. Wine-tasting will be courtesy of Liberty Vineyards & Winery.

The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, a Western New York tradition featuring more than 35 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local products, is open for the 2012 season. Hours at the open-air market are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine. 

 

Providing musical entertainment on Saturday, Sept. 22, will be Sean Hook from 10 to 11:30 a.m., followed from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. by Birdie Cree. Wine-tasting will be courtesy of 21 Brix Winery.

 

Fidelis Care Awards Grant for In-School Social Work Program

BUFFALO, N.Y., Sept. 18, 2012 – Catholic Charities of Buffalo has received a $55,000 grant from Fidelis Care, the New York State Catholic health plan, to support its In-School Social Work program for several Buffalo grade schools. This is the eighth year Fidelis Care has made possible funds for the program, which supports students and their families in school and the community.

The grant reflects part of the funds made available through the 2011 Fidelis Care Community Grant Fund, which are distributed across New York State’s eight Roman Catholic Dioceses to non-profit organizations with similar missions and values of service to low-income, vulnerable individuals.

The Town of Tonawanda Community Emergency Response Team reminds residents that they should stock their homes with supplies that may be needed during an emergency, such as a severe storm, other natural disaster and manmade disasters.

Navy Day at the Buffalo Zoo

Navy Day at the Buffalo Zoo

Buffalo, N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2012) – The Buffalo Zoo will host Navy Day on Sunday, September 16 as part of Navy Week in Buffalo.

The event runs from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and is free with regular Zoo admission. The Zoo will offer a special “High Five for the Military” discount during the event. Members of the United States military and up to four additional guests will be admitted to the Zoo for a total of $5.00. A valid military ID must be presented at the admission gates to receive the discount.

The Navy Day event will feature activities and demonstrations including Navy vehicles, Navy SEALS parachuting into the Zoo parking lot, and a special sea lion show. Some of these activities are weather permitting.
