Bayonets Before Daybreak Recreates 1813 Capture of Fort Niagara

Bayonets Before Daybreak Recreates 1813 Capture of Fort Niagara

A special walking tour set for Sunday morning, December 19 will follow in the footsteps of British soldiers who captured Fort Niagara exactly 197 years ago. The tour will be led by a uniformed War of 1812 soldier who will walk participants through the daring night attack that delivered Fort Niagara from U.S. into British hands. The soldier will also give tour participants a first-hand look at Fort Niagara's American garrison, including uniforms and equipment of U.S. War of 1812 soldiers.

The tour begins at 7:00 am, just hours after the actual assault captured the Fort on the morning of December 19, 1813. Following the tour, participants will be served breakfast at the Fort Niagara Officers Club. Attendance is limited to the first twenty people who register. Cost is $18.13 per person and must be paid in advance by calling (716) 745-7611.

For more information, consult Old Fort Niagara's website at www.oldfortniagara.org.

Holiday Event to Benefit AIDS Community Services

Ebenezer: Do You Believe A Man Can Change?, a unique one-man show by Lee John to benefit AIDS Community Services, will be held at 7:30 p.m. December 15 and 16 at the Evergreen Conference Center/BUA, 119 W. Chippewa St., Buffalo. Tickets are just $10 and can be purchased at the door or by calling 499-1755.

Lee John explores Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in a unique, fun and intensely emotional way. It is a “behind the scenes” look at Ebenezer’s fateful night. In Lee’s version, Jacob Marley is not repentant, yet has one word that can save us all. The three ghosts are “off-duty union workers” that spout wisecracks and wisdom to the audience.  They discuss silk sheets, TJ Maxx, movies, obesity, husky jeans, union rules and yes, Ebenezer.
