Mary Queen of Angels School Achieves STREAM Academy Status

Mary Queen of Angels Regional Catholic School in Cheektowaga is proud to announce that it has been designated as a STREAM Academy School by the Diocese of Buffalo. STREAM is an extension of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) academic program, and includes emphasis on Religion and Arts.

“STREAM is not a new curriculum, but rather a creative framework for teaching a given concept across a variety of subjects integrating traditional textbooks with technology — iPads, SmartBoards and laptops — to access the internet to explore, process and learn,” said Mary Queen of Angels Principal MaryAlice Bagwell. “Students will have increased exposure to relevant, hands-on activities relating to a specific topic.”

“This will allow all of our students to focus on inquiry, creativity, complex thinking and hands-on fun,” added MQA STREAM Coordinator Stephany Nalley. “STREAM Academy courses will be run for every grade level — from Pre-K through Grade 8 — and our school will have a specific ‘STREAM Hour’ each Monday afternoon. Our teachers will also be completing more hands-on learning in science through the use of Elementary Science Program Kits. It’s going to be a great year!”

Mary Queen of Angels School, located at 170 Rosewood Terrace, is still accepting applications for all grade levels for the 2015-16 school year. For more information or to schedule a tour, please call the school office at 895-6280 or visit www.mqangels.com.
