BUFFALO, NY - The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation says a fire at a Black Rock manufacturing plant showered some cars and buildings in the surrounding area with black soot Wednesday morning.
The blaze broke out at Aurubis Buffalo (the former American Brass) on Sayre Street. The DEC sent personnel from its Spills and Air Resources unit to investigate and meet with plant officials. Members took several samples and have sent them on to an Albany lab for analysis, though no significant environmental impact is expected.
Company officials were out in the neighborhood Wednesday handing out car wash coupons and assisting in other cleanup work.
Jack Alange, an Aurubis spokesman, says the fire was small and was quickly contained. There were no injuries.
