BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Two teens accused of murdering a teenager who was stabbed and burned to death last week were arraigned in Buffalo City Court Wednesday.
The suspects are 17-year-old Demetrius Huff and 16-year-old Ezeiekile Nafi, both of Buffalo. They face 2nd Degree Murder charges in the death of 16-year-old Darren Brown.
The teens were arraigned in front of city court Judge Susan Eagan. Judge Eagan allowed a pool camera in the courtroom, but the media was asked not to show the defendents' faces and no audio recording was allowed.
Brown's body was found on Colvin Avenue and Taunton Place in North Buffalo Friday night with multiple stab wounds and burns. Buffalo Police have not released many details about the crime, but detectives do not believe it was a random act, because the victim and suspects were "acquaintances."
Investigators say they do not believe the murder was based on retaliation. Gang involvement has not been ruled out.
Officers say more arrests could be forthcoming.
Tips from the public as well as evidence from the city's surveillance cameras helped in the investigation, according to Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda.
