BBB: State AG Involved in FWS Furniture Complaints | News
BUFFALO, N.Y. - A spokeswoman for The Better Business Bureau of Buffalo tells 2 On Your Side that the New York State Attorney General's Office is now involved in the numerous customer complaints regarding the now closed FWS Home Furnishings stores.
Peggy Penders of the BBB says they are sharing the up to 70 complaints that came in to their office this year with the AG's office. Penders says some of the complaints involve checks which bounced for customer refunds for cancelled orders. Other upset customers like Yvette Hill have contacted wgrz.com because they paid hundreds of dollars and never got their furniture or other items.
FWS furniture has closed all three of its locations in Buffalo, Williamsville, and Orchard Park and a creditor has taken over the assets. That took effect on Tuesday.
A statement from FWS owners John Grimaldi and John Wanat says "Due to very difficult economic issues, FWS will be closing its doors after a liquidation sale is completed. There will be a brief period of time where daily operations will be shut down for inventory."
If you call the phone number for any FWS location, you will hear a recording stating that a creditor has taken over all assets and that anyone with an order should leave a message. The FWS statement lists that number as 716 - 874 - 5740 EXT 221 so they can leave their contact information and they will be contacted by the agent who will manage the closing of the company.
The FWS owners say they thank the 32 employees of FWS for their hard work and dedication. They say "The current situation is not something that we had ever dreamed would happen, and we are deeply saddened that we no longer have control over the operations of the company."
Penders says she has learned there may be some furniture or items in the stores to fill some of the unfilled orders. She says anyone who paid by credit card can contact the card company which may be able to fight on their behalf for a settlement.
Penders says it may be more difficult for anyone who paid cash or by check. That's why the BBB suggests people pay by thirds for goods or services with the final payment on delivery.
