Grisanti Names Joseph Pasek ‘Veteran Of The Month’

New York State Senator Mark Grisanti recently named Joseph Pasek as the sixth recipient of his “Veteran of the Month” recognition program.

A resident of the City of Tonawanda who served with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam, Pasek is the sixth recipient of a monthly honor presented by Senator Grisanti following an application and nomination process coordinated by staff members in Grisanti’s veterans liaison office.

“I am pleased to recognize Joseph with this honor,” said Senator Grisanti, a member of the New York State Senate’s Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committees. “I commend him for his career of distinguished service and applaud him for his work as an active member of the Vietnam Veterans of America chapter in Tonawanda, where he serves on their board of directors. His community involvement is admirable, especially what he has done over the past two years with the ‘Come Fly A Kite For Homeless Veterans’ event.”

Secretary of Homeland Security Announces Process for DACA Renewal

 

The U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson, recently announced that there will be a process for individuals to renew enrollment in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. USCIS has released the updated Form I-821D, which allows DACA recipients to renew their deferral for a two-year period. At the direction of the secretary, USCIS will begin accepting renewal requests immediately.

New York State Senator Mark Grisanti (R, I-60) today announced that Joseph Ruszala of Hamburg was honored in Albany  this week, as part of a ceremony that recognizes military veterans of New York being named to this year’s class of the New York State Senate’s Veterans Hall Of Fame.

“I am thrilled to honor Joe based on his dedication and hard work in our community,” said Senator Grisanti.”Joe is a role model and I am proud to nominate him for this honor because of the many contributions have made and continues to make in the community. I gladly acknowledge the work that he has done as we celebrate our military veterans in New York State.”

Wasserman Schultz Gives View of Political Landscape

U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida shed light on the national political scene and her personal path to public service at the Daemen College Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series event held May 13.

In an engaging and conversational style, Wasserman Schultz, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, started off speaking before the overflow crowd about her introduction to politics in 1992 when she ran for the Florida State Legislature.

“The opportunity to work in public service was inspiring and presented an opportunity for me to help people, particularly young families, improve education and work on making quality, affordable health care available to everyone,” she said. “However, most of all, I knew my voice could speak for other women like me who are not represented in a political capacity.”

Democratic Leader to Address National Issues at Daemen Lecture

U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, a leader on women’s and children’s issues, will address national political and policy issues and her own personal and professional story at 1 p.m. May 13 in Daemen College’s Wick Campus Center Alumni Lounge.

The lecture, “A Conversation on National Politics and Policies,” is part of the recently established Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series. The event is free and open to the public.

Grant Allows Lake Shore School District To Direct Savings To Educational Programs

A grant from New York State Senator Mark Grisanti will provide perpetual savings to the Lake Shore Central School District and taxpayers.

Senator Mark Grisanti awarded $50,000 in funding to the District in the form of bullet aid for the 2013-14 school year with the designation the funding as being for one-time expenditures. 

“Senator Grisanti’s grant allowed Lake Shore to replace exterior lighting at five facilities in the District, continuing our efforts in energy conservation as well as improving safety and security by increasing visibility on our campuses,” Mr. Przepasniak said.

“We were delighted to receive this additional funding and sought to use the money to make a lasting investment in our District,” Superintendent of Schools James Przepasniak said.
