Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market to Open Saturday, May 7

?Several new vendors, talented local entertainers and an Electronic Benefit Transfer system will greet visitors to the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market during the 2011 season. Already one of Western New York’s favorite annual traditions, the market opens for business on Saturday, May 7. Hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine. 

The market features more than 30 vendors — including several with new product offerings — selling fruits, vegetables, baked goods, organics, fresh meat, cut flowers, wine, eggs, dairy, honey, cheese and much more in an open-air setting.

Since recycling cell phones benefits gorillas in the Congo by decreasing the demand for coltan mining, each visitor who donates an old cell phone will receive a $1 discount off regular Zoo admission per phone. Celebrate a "purrrfect" weekend, and come to the Buffalo Zoo to see our fine felines in action! Enjoy enrichment for the animals and keeper talks about our servals, lions, tigers and snow leopards. NYPA Greenway Fund to Hold Open Meeting to Review Projects Submitted for Funding.

The Buffalo and Erie County Greenway Fund Standing Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 1, at 4:30 p.m. at the Marcy Casino, Hoyt Lake at Delaware Park in Buffalo. The meeting is open to the public and the agenda will include the review of projects that have been submitted for funding.

Representatives for each project will be given the opportunity to make a short presentation, however, there will not be any funding decisions made at the meeting. Funding will be announced at a future meeting, currently scheduled for March 29, 2011.

The projects scheduled to be reviewed include:

Town of Grand Island: Scenic Woods—Bicentennial Park Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservacy: Riverside Park—River Rock Gardens Rehabilitation Project
City of Buffalo: Tifft Street Pier  
Friends of the Cotter: Fireboat Edward M.

City Hosting Green Code Workshops

City Hosting Green Code Workshops

The City of Buffalo is hosting free community workshops surrounding its proposal to create a Green Code for the city.  The code represents a new zoning ordinance for the city bringing it into the 21st century.

The plan calls for developing common themes for neighborhoods and regulating what land owners can and cannot do with their property. New rules are being called for as well to reduce energy use and improve neighborhoods for the future.

Workshops will be held in all major neighborhoods in the city at the times and locations below:

Richardson Olmsted Complex January 26th Public Meeting

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Please join the Richardson Center Corporation on Wednesday, January 26, 6:00 pm at Rockwell Hall Performing Arts Center for an informational and interactive meeting on the Richardson Olmsted Complex South Lawn. 

The South Lawn will be a welcoming landscape for public enjoyment. As an important component of the Master Plan Core Project, the South Lawn landscape, circulation and entry encompasses a 4 acre area between the Towers Building and Forest Avenue. The design plans carry out a contemporary interpretation of the Olmsted design for new and existing users.  

At the meeting, plans for this $4 million construction project will be unveiled and the community will have the opportunity for discussion.
