Holy Angels Academy Launches Prep School

Holy Angels Academy, a Catholic, college preparatory, high school for young women, is opening the only all-girls’ Catholic middle school connected to a high school in Western New York.  Called Holy Angels Prep, the school will encompass grades 6, 7 and 8 and open in fall 2012 on the Academy’s campus.  The school will offer middle school girls a unique opportunity to take challenging coursework and earn high school credit.

“This new educational platform at Holy Angels builds on the strategic plan that the Diocese of Buffalo announced a week ago.  Holy Angels aims to not only sustain, but grow opportunities for outstanding secondary Catholic education in Western New York,” said Joan D. Thomas, Holy Angels President. “We will be offering parents and young girls a first class option for middle school that is currently not available,” Thomas continued.

Holy Angels will enroll sixty young women who excel academically and who seek to take advanced coursework in a single gender environment.  Overall, the school’s programs offer a continuum of education for students.  A young girl can enter middle school and earn high school credits, and then progress to high school where she will be able to take college courses her junior and senior year through the Knowledge to College partnership program that Holy Angels has with D’Youville College.

Highlights of the middle school curriculum include courses in Foreign Language Exploration which previews French, Spanish and Latin; Fine Arts Exploration; Writing for High School; Earth Science; Integrated Algebra; Studio Art, and much more.

“Holy Angels Prep will be a professionally staffed middle school with highly qualified, certified faculty and staff,” said Thomas

In addition to high quality academics, Holy Angels is offering an emphasis on Catholic identity; small classes; a safe environment, and rich traditions.  Girls will have many opportunities to join clubs and organizations based on common interests and goals and to participate in diverse athletic programs.

“It is our hope that this innovative program will lead to even more young women taking advantage of everything a Catholic education has to offer:  A Christ-centered atmosphere, excellent academics and in the case of Holy Angels Academy, developing a personal commitment to justice and compassion,”  said Dr. Rosemary Henry, superintendent of Catholic Schools for the diocese.

Holy Angels Prep will be located in a selected area of Holy Angels Academy and offer the girls a separate lunch period and locker room.  “We want to retain a middle school identity for these students while offering them challenging high school coursework,” said Thomas. “This is the best preparatory environment for girls before they enter high school, “  she concluded.
