Dog Ears Bookstore to Host Book-signing Event with Jim Ostrowski

 

Dog Ears Bookstore, located at 688 Abbott Road in Buffalo, will host author Jim Ostrowski for a book-signing event at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15.

Ostrowski is a trial and appellate lawyer from Buffalo. His book, “Progressivism: A Primer on the Idea Destroying America,” was released in September.

Holiday Events are the Focus at Enjoy The Journey Art Gallery

 

Several holiday-themed classes and events are planned in the upcoming weeks at Enjoy The Journey Art Gallery, located at 1168 Orchard Park Road in West Seneca.

A Colored Pencil Class with artist Cindi O’Mara will offer students an opportunity to  create holiday designs they can then use to design their own holiday cards! Classes will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 4 and 11, and the cost is $40. A supply list for the class can be found on the gallery’s website.

A new indoor farmers’ and food producers’ market will open inside the new 3,000-square-foot home of The Pasta Peddler and Blackbird Sweets, located at 1547 Hertel Ave., Buffalo, on Saturday, Nov. 22. The 20-week market will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through April 4.

The Pasta Peddler and Blackbird Sweets, two family owned businesses operating side-by-side, will open the doors at their new location at 1547 Hertel Ave., Buffalo, on Tuesday, Sept. 9. A grand opening celebration will be held from Sept. 23-28, with live music on Saturday, Sept. 27, beginning at 2 p.m.

Additionally, the owners also announced that their new 3,000-square-foot location will host the Winter Market on Hertel from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from Nov. 22 through March 28.

Michael J. Maccalupo, author of The Allentown Murders, will take part in a reading and book-signing event at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Dog Ears Bookstore, 688 Abbott Road, South Buffalo.

Set in the City of Buffalo, The Allentown Murders finds four unlikely heroes facing a possible serial killer as they search for clues to the murder of a loved one. The spirits of a little girl and a murdered friend attempt to warn our heroes of impending danger – or are they?

Maccalupo is the author of three other fiction books, including Where the Road Begins, Murder at Ravenswood Hall and The Almost Definitive Collection vol. 1.

East Aurora Readies for 45th Annual Street Festival and Sidewalk Sale

 

One of East Aurora’s most popular annual events — the Street Festival and Sidewalk Sale — returns on Saturday, July 26, and will feature more than 100 vendors, special guests and numerous fun-filled family activities. Now in its 45th year, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Main Street.

Doug Allen, national anthem singer for the Buffalo Sabres, will be joined by the American Legion Post #362 Color Guard to perform the Star-Spangled Banner at 9:45 a.m. Chalk Walk Murals, sponsored by the Town of Aurora Recreation Department, will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the award-winning Rince Na Tiarna Irish dancers will perform at 10:30 a.m. Unyts will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Press Raw Food & Juice to Begin Smoothie Service at Grant Street Location

Starting the first full week of May, Press Raw Food & Juice is relaunching its smoothie menu that proved very popular at its original location on Connecticut Street. The healthy food retailer and take-out shop opened at its current location, 197 Grant St. in Buffalo, in December 2013.

“Customers will have the option of creating their own smoothie, selecting from our cold pressed juices and a changing assortment of frozen organic produce, nuts, greens and supplements,” said owner and executive chef Esther Pica. “Or, they can simply select from proven winners such as Chocolate Kale, Chili Mango, The Mild Green (pineapple, pear, spinach and ginger) and the newest smoothie version of our popular ‘Wakey Wakey’ juice! We will also be offering rotary juices made to order.”
