More Than Just Hoops: Youth Bounce Basketballs To Better Grades In School!

Buffalo, New York – With a committed focus to being community oriented, the Buffalo Warriors an Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League (ACPBL) team are partnering with a local youth basketball team at The Belle Center to help encourage physical fitness and academic discipline.

The Buffalo Warriors donated fifteen customized uniforms that closely resemble their own to their understudies, “The B.C. Warriors”- youth basketball team at The Belle Center. A “Warriors Celebration” took place March 22, 2012 at 104 Maryland Street Buffalo, NY 14201. At the event The B.C. Warriors were presented with customized uniforms by The Buffalo Warriors. In addition, the event helped create awareness in the community about how the basketball program transcends hoops and provides mentorship and tutoring to team members.

Buffalo Junior Sabres Announce Tryouts for 2012-13 OJHL Season

(Amherst, NY) – The Buffalo Junior Sabres will start their preparations for the 2012-13 Ontario Junior Hockey League season by hosting tryouts, which begin the weekend of April 21 and 22, 2012.

Tryouts will be held at the Northtown Center at Amherst, 1615 Amherst Manor Drive.  Space will be limited.  Interested players should visit the team’s official website, www.buffalojuniorsabres.com, for instructions and to download a copy of the tryout application.

The Junior Sabres, operated by members of the Buffalo Sabres Alumni, will be led by head coach and general manager Michael Peca in the 2012-13 season.

Founded in 1975, the Junior Sabres organization develops elite level players for consideration by higher-level hockey programs, most notably NCAA college hockey.  Three players from the 2011-12 roster have verbally committed to NCAA Division-I programs.

Nichols School Junior Commits to Harvard

Nichols School junior, Sean Malone ’13 has committed to Harvard University for the fall of 2013 or 2014.

A native of West Seneca, Malone is a smart, skilled center who makes great plays and finishes equally well. On top of all that, he’s physically involved and highly competitive. Malone led the CISAA in scoring with 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists) in 15 games. He becomes the third player out of Nichols in the past two years to commit to a Division I school.

In addition to Harvard, Malone visited Cornell University, Princeton University and Michigan State. At Nichols this season, he held a 34-36-70 line in 32 games. He also played for the Buffalo Saints U18 team, where he had a 27-27-54 line. The Saints will play in the New York State Tournament March 17-18.

Free Girls' Basketball Clinic with Hall of Fame Member, Eva Cunningham

Buffalo Seminary will host a free Girls' Basketball Clinic with Niagara Athletics Hall of Fame member, Eva Cunningham, on Saturday, February 25 from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.

A former student-athlete at Niagara University, Eva is the all-time leading scorer for the Purple Eagles women's basketball program, with a record total of 1,753 points and 553 assists. She is also the first female student-athlete in Niagara's history to have her jersey retired. After graduating in 2005, she went on to play professional basketball in Puerto Rico, Portugal and Ireland. Recently named to the MAAC Honor Roll, Eva serves as the Assistant Director of Athletics and Head Basketball Coach at Buffalo Seminary.

BUFFALO, NY – Despite mild winter temperatures, the Western New York Ford Dealers announced that the Ford Focus Hockey Shootout will still go on.  Taking place at the Labatt Blue Buffalo Street Hockey Tournament – ten lucky fans will get a chance to shoot-to-win a new 2012 Ford Focus.

“We’re gearing up for a big weekend at the Erie Basin Marina,” said Frank Downing, representative of the WNY Ford Dealers. “Mother Nature won’t stop us from having a good time; it’s still all about great people and outdoor hockey - ice or not.”
